| | Do you know someone who has become famous? | | The other day I was asking about celebrity crushes, and it reminded me of the fact that I went through school with a boy who is now a professional baseball player. That got me to thinking, I wonder if there are other people that know someone that was famous or that eventually became famous. The person that I know is Austin Kearns, who is a professional baseball player, he started out on the Cincinnati Reds and was later traded to the Washington Nationals. He is a great person and growing up he always was a sweet boy.So, tell me, do you know someone that is famous as well? | |
| | National Fans... What Do You Think is He Worth It? | | Can the signing of pitcher Stephan Strasburg by the Washington Nationals fill the baseball stadium in Washington D.C., will it bring enough fans to fill the seats? This is the question that the owners should be asking themselves. Or did the owners and manager just want to add some “flair” to the ball team for publicity? It’s doubtful that the $15.1 million, plus incentives, contract will ever be recovered by ticket sales. Maybe the owners had such deep pockets that they were determined just to make a deal and hit the headlines. Stephen Strasburg is fresh out of San Diego State and hasn’t pitched since May of this year. Can he be ready to help the Nationals some time this season, or will he just ride the bench until next Spring? I guess that is a question that manager Mike Rizzo will have to answer.

| | Florida Marlins | | What does everyone think of the Florida Marlins this year? I know it is only the first week and three of their games were against the Washington Nationals but this has been their greatest start ever in their history. Does anyone think they will make the playoffs and maybe win the World Series? They have a somewhat similar team this year as they did in 2003 with speed at the front part of the lineup and power in the middle part of the lineup. Plus they have goof young starting pitching. Another parallel I see is that Lindstrom reminds me a lot of Looper. Does anyone see any other similarities? | |
| | What is your favorite baseball team? | | I don't just have one. I have 4. my first was The Mets. I love all the guys and it was great to see them win in 1986. I also love The Dodgers.Tommy Lasorta is my man and when I started rooting for them,Fernando Valenzuela was their pitcher.i loved him too. And then Mike Piazza was a Dodger too. Yummy. And lately, ever since 2003, I have become a Red Sox fan,my 1st and only American League team. Why? Simple. any team that hates the Yeankees as much as I do, I have to root for.And it was great timing because Kirk Schilling was a Red Sox and they were to Finally win the World Series. And last but not least, The Washington Nationals. They sre the local team and they may not be that good but they do have heart. What is your favorite team? And Yankees fans, I will not hold your choice against you. I am just curious. | |
| | the season | | What do you think of the Washington Nationals season so far? They started rough but it seems they are beginning to hit their stride. They had a good seris with the World Champs (so called!) St. Louis Cardinals last weekend. | |
| | Davis to Arizona, Estrada to Milwaukee in 6-player deal | | The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired left-hander Doug Davis from Milwaukee on Saturday in a six-player deal that sent catcher Johnny Estrada to the Brewers. Right-handers Greg Aquino and Claudio Vargas also went to Milwaukee, while the Diamondbacks obtained a pair of youngsters, left-hander Dana Eveland and outfielder Dave Krynzel. The 31-year-old Davis is 62-63 with a 4.35 ERA in eight major league seasons. He was 11-11 with a 4.91 ERA in 34 starts last season with Milwaukee and, like Estrada, is arbitration eligible. The 30-year-old Estrada hit .301 with 11 home runs and 71 RBIs during his only season with Arizona. The switch-hitting former All-Star had the sixth-best batting average among NL catchers. Starting pitching behind NL Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb was a major weakness for the Diamondbacks last season. Davis, who has thrown at least 200 innings in each of the last three seasons, joins Webb and Livan Hernandez in Arizona's projected rotation for next year.
"With the addition of Doug we have three perennial 200-inning guys who more often than not are lower ERA guys," Diamondbacks general manager Josh Byrnes said. "I think our rotation is...

| | Soriano wants to warm up for Cubs in Dominican winter league | |
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) -- Alfonso Soriano wants to warm up for his Chicago Cubs debut by playing for his hometown team in the Dominican winter league. "I'm going to ask permission to play for the Eastern Stars when I get back to Chicago for the press conference where they're going to introduce me next week," the slugger told The Associated Press on Friday after arriving in the Caribbean country.
Soriano's new eight-year, $136 million with the Cubs is the fifth-richest in major league history. If he gets permission to suit up, Soriano would join New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Los Angeles outfielder Matt Kemp on the Stars. The team from San Pedro de Macoris trails the first-place Cibao Giants by 4 1/2 games. Soriano said he would keep working out an outfielder but is willing to consider a return to second base, the position he played before joining the Washington Nationals before last season. "I know that Chicago already has Mark DeRosa at second base, but if they want me to play second, I will," he said.
