Toronto Blue Jays
We are now half way through the month of May and the Jays are playing some great ball! They are currently in Seattle tonight and on their way to winning yet another road game. They are 8 game over .500 with tonight's win. Their success is attributed to being one of the better hitting teams in the league so far. Vernon Wells has come out of the gate on fire! They have the best power numbers in the game! Leading the major leagues in Home Runs hit! Not bad for a team many so called experts picked to finish dead last in the AL East. I know it's only May, but I think they can keep up the pace and have a great season.
2007-05-06 Toronto Blue Jays (Burnett) at Texas Rangers (Loe)
The Jays really need to end their losing streak, and in the rare case that Halladay is the one who last extended the streak, Burnett's the guy you want up there. He's up against yet another over-inflated ERA, but the pressure is on, and when the pressure is on, so is AJ Burnett.I expect a huge outing from AJ Burnett despite his lack of daytime success this season and the fact that the Ballpark in Arlington is a terrible visiting pitchers park.I am actually predicting a Blue Jay blowout and an 80% chance of victory. What are your thoughts on the game?
2007-05-05 Toronto Blue Jays (Halladay) at Texas Rangers (Padilla)
This game could not possibly have gone worse. It was Roy Halladay's 2nd worst start in his career, honestly against a team that's given him the hardest time in his career. He was trying to get his 100th career win, which now looks like it will have to come against Boston, hopefully with me in the stands.I don't know what happened, it was really one inning that got him, and I was unable to catch the game. He came into the game with an ERA of 2.28.The odds of him giving up 9 earned runs in 5 1/3 with stats like that are literally 1 in 93000 (if he really is a 2.28 ERA guy)
2007-05-03 Toronto Blue Jays (McGowan) at Cleveland Indians (Lee)
The Jays here are trying to avoid being swept in a series in which they probably should have been the ones completing the sweep. They had Burnett go in the first game, and had Cleveland down to their last pitcher yesterday. Both starters for both teams are making their 2007 debuts tonight and ours looks to have much more potential than theirs. I try not to show it much, but I am a huge fan of offenses that go deep into counts and waste pitches. Knowing the pitch count era for what it is, I know that the more wasted pitches, the shorter a starter lasts.I am hoping that the Jays can do that. I want Cliff Lee out of there ASAP, make him throw 20 pitches an inning, he'll be out in 5 for SURE, maybe even 4. Cleveland used EVERY pitcher last night, I'm hoping that makes half of them unavailable for tonight. Maybe that'll lead to their starter being in too long and screwing up. That's what the Jays need to do to win this game, spend the first third burning the starter, spend the 2nd 3rd clobbering whoever comes in and spend the final third of the game holding on for dear life. What are your thoughts on the game?
2007-05-02 Toronto Blue Jays (Zambrano) at Cleveland Indians (Westbrook)
I think the Jays have somewhat written off this game as a transition for Zambrano from pen to rotation as they are only expecting 3 innings out of him. They picked the right game to experiment though. Their bats could use some heating up after last nights disappointment, and they are facing somebody with a 7.96 ERA. Westbrook has been getting better, but I am hoping the Jays will throw a wrench in those plans. The Jays will be looking to salvage the series as Zambrano looks for his first career win against Cleveland. I say this game is a pick 'em.What are your thoughts on the game?
2007-05-01 Toronto Blue Jays (Burnett) at Cleveland Indians (Sabathia)
WOW! Can you say picthers duel? Apparently AJ Burnett has a 1.31 ERA in night games, and CC Sabathia is a perennial Cy Young Candidate who is looking to lose his first game this year. OK not looking, but asking for. I think this will be a pitchers duel, but I think the Jays will eventually get to Sabathia. Burnett pitches well when the pressure is high and the centre of attention is elsewhere.Last outing he pitched very well shutting out the Yankees and I expect more of the same. Yesterday, I accurately predicted Troy Glaus would have a large impact on the game, so I feel obligated to offer a prediction. mlb.com says to watch out for Royce Clayton. I am predicting that Frank Thomas will do something since April is now officially over. The team who's starter goes longest probably has an 85% chance of winning this game. I don't know the state of the Indians bullpen, but I'm pretty sure everybody is available and they will likely avouid using Zambrano or Towers. The Jays say somebody will be promoted to replace Chacin, I think they should just leave Towers in while Chacin is out, give him 3 more starts to do something with. He may actually win 1 or 2, McGowan might...
2007-04-30 Toronto Blue Jays (Halladay) vs. Texas Rangers (Padilla)
It's everybody's favourite part of the rotation, Roy Halladay's turn. True that Texas has given him more trouble throughout his career than anybody else, but he's Roy Halladay. He's 3-0 with a 2.58 ERA, and he's going against a struggling pitcher looking for his first win while holding a 5.79 ERA facing arguably the best offense in the league right now that's heating up.I think the Jays will even up the series and Troy Glaus will have something to do with it.What are your thoughts on the game?
2007-04-27 Toronto Blue Jays (Towers) vs. Texas Rangers (Tejada)
The Jays are on a high right now, and hope that nothing can stop them. Towers seems to only do well when there is pressure on him (so I was kind of hoping that he'd pitch yesterday, but there's no way Burnett should miss a start). Personally, I would have skipped Towers and gone right to Chacin with the surprise off-day, not because it's Towers, but because he's the #5 guy.Either way, that is the matchup and I think the Jays have the edge. This matchup will feature Frank Catalanatto's return to Toronto, and a Texas Pitcher who's never faced the Jays.I give the Jays a 70% chance of victory tonight and the hope that they will win at least 3 of the 4 games in this home-stand before heading to Cleveland. What are your thoughts on the game?
007-04-25 Toronto Blue Jays (Burnett) at New York Yankees (Pettite)
The Jays look to continue with hot offense. They'll need it. They are missing Reed Johnson, Troy Glaus and possibly Gregg Zaun. With the loss of BJ Ryan, the Yankees have 9 innings to beat us rather than the usual 8, so either Burnett is going to have a great outing or our offense is going to have to out-slug theirs. My prediction for tonights game is that Burnett will have a decent, but not stellar outing, so as long as our offense doesn't struggle, we'll be OK.What are your thoughts on the game?
2007-04-24 Toronto Blue Jays (Halladay) at Boston Redt Sox (Tavarez)
I apologize for me missing a few games with my previews, as I have been busy with exams. I was following this game and I couldn't help but wonder. Why would you take Halladay out after 95 pitches and a 3-1 lead after only 7 1/3 but leave him in with a 10-3 lead and 113 pitches his very next outing for 8 innings?I understand they want to save his arm, but wasn't THIS start the time to do it?Other than that, I am happy that our offense finally came through with 15 hits. I heard Overbay was sick before the game and almost didn't even show up to the stadium, and he ended up with 3 RBIs.What are your thoughts on this game?
