myLot Discussions| 2007-03-13 Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning | | I think the Leafs have an advantage tonight, the Lightning are concluding their 6 game road trip, and may be looking past the Leafs as they finish the season with 8 out of 11 games at home.Toronto traditionally has done well against the Lightning and may want this game more than they do as they fight for a playoff spot.I think the Leafs will win in a nail-biter, and I give them a 55% chance of winning.What are your thoughts? | |
| | This summer's free agency signings | | I've been watching the signing closely and so far I think the Tampa Bay Lightning have made the smartest moves. They got Ryan Malone to sign a long contract, they got two veterans in Mark Recchi and Gary Roberts, They drafted that wunderkid with their number one pick, they got Vaclav Prospal back to a long term deal, they got perhaps the best goaltender on the market as a backup. I think that's it. They completely revamped their team and look to be one of the more exciting teams to watch next year. Any thoughts on who you thought were the best or worst teams through the summer? The worst had to be the New York Rangers. | |
| | Hockey a cruel irony. | | It must be totally ironic to anyone who gives two cents about hockey. Canada a nation that lives and dies for that sport. The nation that its young boys who go to sleep cradling their very first hockey stick. Dreams about the first time on a frozen pond make the night go by fast. This nation has not had the stanley cup to grace its nation since 1993 when the Montreal Canadians. Since 1993, lets look at a list of teams that have won the Stanley cup:
The Dallas Stars, The Tampa Bay Lightning, the Carolina Hurricanes, and now just one game away the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. What makes it even worse is that three of the four teams beat Canadian teams. People who live in the sunbelt of the US, could care less really about hockey. The reason why they go to the games is for the hitting, for the hitting, and did I mention for the hitting. Look Canada, we don't get the sport we just know how to win the sport. We take your best athletes from you, and use them against you. But it really wasn't that hard. The highs for the weekend is not known, but it has not been too hot in any part of South Florida for the last 4 weeks or so. | | 3 month old killed in Tampa Bay | | There was the most disturbing story in the news today. There was a domestic disturbance in the middle of the night last night in Tampa, FL between a 22 year old man and his ex-girlfriend. The girl had a 3 month old baby. The couple was in an argument when the man picked up the baby and threw him down on the ground. He then got in his vehicle to flee the scene and took the infant with him. He was driving along Interstate 275 when he threw the baby out of the window. The baby did not survive. I am so shocked by this story. Why did a small, helpless child have to get involved in this couple's argument? He lost his life because some dumb person could not control his anger. I do not think that there is a punishment that could even fir this crime. | |
| | Where are the Tampa Bay Ray fans? | | I was watching sports center and Mike and Mike in the morning and they both mentioned that not enough fans are going to the Tampa Bay Rays games. And I started thinking, Why don't many people got to their games? Yeah they have sucked since the day they've came out but now they are giving the Red Sox and Yankees a run for their money. | | Tampa Bay Rays | | For all the talk of ohh its the same old Rays is out the window cause while they almost certainly will not make the playoffs they have a foundation that can most certainly in the future make them wildcard contenders. the key i think is the new ownership. its good to see because its would be nice to have them not be the annual doormat. also the new stadium they are planning is yuk a retractable curtain i can do without they should just suck it up and add the additional cost for a retractable roof. | |
