This article seemed like a good place to start when facing the problem.

Banning fast food advertisements from children’s television programs would reduce the number of overweight children in the U.S. by 18 percent and decrease the number of overweight teens by 14 percent, economists have estimated in a new study. The researchers used several statistical models to link obesity rates to the amount of time spent viewing fast food advertising, finding that viewing more fast food commercials on television raises the risk of obesity in children. The study appears in this month’s issue of The Journal of Law and Economics.“There is not a lot of evidence that overweight kids are more likely to watch TV than other kids,” said Michael Grossman, professor of economics at the City University of New York. “We’re arguing the... | |
| | This is something I find interesting to read. I know you won't read it all:) | | Men who have sex with men and women are a "significant bridge for HIV to women," the CDC's new data suggest. The findings come in a presentation to the XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok by CDC researcher Linda Valleroy, PhD. The CDC's Young Men's Survey shows that about one in 10 men reporting sex with men also has sex with women. And more than one in four of these bisexual men has unsafe sex with both kinds of partners."Men who also had sex with women had similar levels of HIV and STDs[as exclusively homosexual men] and higher levels of many risk behaviors," Valleroy and colleagues note in their presentation abstract.Another study presented at the AIDS conference -- based on interviews with nearly 2,500 bisexual men by the San Francisco Department of Health -- shows that 14% of men who have sex with men also has sex with women. But the study, led by Willi McFarland, MD, PhD, suggests that these men may have fewer risk behaviors than exclusively homosexual men."In San Francisco a few years back, we detected this rise in risk behavior in men who have sex with men," McFarland tells WebMD. "That raises the question of whether this will spill over into the... | |
| | Study finds ugly faces more likely to end up in mug shots | | Not only are physically unattractive teenagers likely to be stay-at-homes on prom night, they're also more likely to grow up to be criminals, say two economists who tracked the life course of young people from high school through early adulthood.
"We find that unattractive individuals commit more crime in comparison to average-looking ones, and very attractive individuals commit less crime in comparison to those who are average-looking," say Naci Mocan of the University of Colorado and Erdal Tekin of Georgia State University.
What do you think?
, MD, PhD, suggests that these men may have fewer risk behaviors than exclusively homosexual men."In San Francisco a few years back, we detected this rise in risk behavior in men who have sex with men," McFarland tells WebMD. "That raises the question of whether this will spill over into the general population, with the bridge being men who have sex with men and women. Despite dire predictions, San Francisco does not have a large heterosexual HIV epidemic."What's going on? The reality is that nobody really knows.

| | Psychological issues on ID? | | http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/12/law-label-veterans-damaged-license/?test=latestnewsVeterans groups are blasting Georgia lawmakers for passing legislation that would allow a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder to appear on driver's licenses. The legislation, which awaits Gov. Sonny Purdue's signature, would permit servicemembers and veterans to request a PTSD denotation, which would appear on their driver's licenses as a specific health problem, much like poor eyesight.PTSD is an anxiety disorder that can occur after a traumatic event, including sexual assault, physical assault and military combat. Symptoms include vivid flashbacks to the traumatic event, depression and substance abuse, among others. Up to 20 percent of veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars suffer from PTSD, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs. The bill would require a sworn statement from a physician verifying a diagnosis of PTSD and a waiver of liability for the release of the driver's medical information.State Sen. Ron Ramsey, who co-sponsored the bill, says he sees no downside to the measure. In a statement to FoxNews.com, Ramsey, a Democrat, said the "completely... | |
| | The Best Candidate Series: Cynthia McKinney | | Too bad, DNC & RNC, you missed the boat. The Green Party has beat you to the punch with a trifecta of "First Woman", "First Black Person" and "First All Black Ticket" of any political party in America. The fact that Cynthia McKinney and her Running Mate Rosa Clemente will be on enough state ballots to concieveably win just adds to it. McKinney accepted the party nomination on Aug 18, so she beat Obama as the First Black Nominee by over a week.Cynthia McKinney is the nominee for the Green Party. She served two separate terms in the US House of Representatives, serving the people of the 4th and 11th Congressional Districts in Georgia as a Democrat. | | Telemarketers | | I work at a fire/ems station and you would not believe the calls that tie up our 911 line. Do you want to switch your insurance? Do you wish to become part of a time share in your area? Stupid stuff as this but the kicker is it is all automated and 911 dispatcher which where I work happens to be Georgia State Patrol Office, and they can not get a human on the line. There should be some kind of guidelines for companies that use automated calling systems not to call Emergency numbers. What is your feeling on telemarketers? | |
| | denial of fact and reality, | | The commentary below provides a revealing glimpse at what we are facing from the politically correct in our midst. There is little hope of persuading those who engage in the kind of illogic, irrationality, denial of fact and reality, and propaganda tactics demonstrated below. We must be determined to prevent such blindness to truth from prevailing in this nation we love by actively reaching out to those who are willing to listen with open minds. The good news is we believe a majority of Americans have the commonsense to see through the foolishness expressed below – if the truth is presented to them.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Islamic States and Thought Crimes: The Thug's Idealby John Lewis (March 20, 2008)http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=5137On March 13, I gave my talk “‘No Substitute for Victory’: The Defeat of Islamic Totalitarianism” to an audience of about forty at Georgia State Technical University. In the talk, based on my article in The Objective Standard, I rejected all forms of theocracy, but emphasized the danger posed by the Islamic state and argued for the destruction of its most obvious... | |
| | The Photograph 11.2: Smeared Lines | | 11.2: Something’s wrong.Something’s different. When I parted the curtain of air and stepped into O’Ryan’s, something was different. The time, for one, said 10:35.Second, Frank Hobbs was gone.Long gone. His chair at the table where we’d sat was empty.I lost an hour and a half somewhere. The program had changed. The photograph had changed.Panic squeezed the pit of my gut. What's happening here?An unsettling sense of foreboding settled about my shoulders, a sudden square peg feeling. This isn't the same. This is different. The scents, the sounds, the sights of O'Ryan's were different. People were not positioned as they should have been, something I'd taken for granted in all the times I'd visited the photograph in the past. The irony of that thought was not lost on me."Excuse me."The voice came from my right, from the bartender, Eric his name was, a college kid working his way through Georgia State. I talked to him often. “Note from the white haired gentleman,” Eric said. “He had to leave, but said you’d understand the note.”I unfolded the napkin and glanced over the words scrawled in blue ink, Bob... | |
