student expelled for being gay...
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The boyfriend of a Kentucky college student expelled for declaring his homosexuality on the Internet called Wednesday for a halt to $10 million in state funding for the private Baptist school.Zac Dreyer — who met the student, Jason Johnson, on MySpace.com about two months ago — said Johnson is doing well but is a bit surprised by the publicity his case has generated. Johnson was expelled from the University of the Cumberlands earlier this month after posting details of his dating life on the Web site."Originally I was just appalled by the whole thing that happened," Dreyer said. "Right now I'm just happy to see all the support Jason is getting."Johnson is hoping to transfer to Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, where Dreyer also attends, Dreyer said.Dreyer was among some 50 protesters who rallied Wednesday morning at a park in Williamsburg over Johnson's expulsion. Johnson didn't attend the rally, which featured rainbow-colored gay pride flags and numerous signs, including one that read, "If God didn't create homosexuals, why do they exist?"The main speaker was state Sen. Ernesto Scorsone,...
Weather
Who is ready for spring? Well I am. I live in eastern Kentucky and as soon as the snow melts and the roads clear we get more.... We have 3 different groundhogs telling different things..... I want warm weather.....
Do you think Flip Flops are dangerous?
Now that the weather is warming ( it was a balmy 76 here in Eastern Kentucky today) the young girls are out with their flip flops on their feet. Do you think these shoes pose any danger in terms of driving, going up and down steps or anything? They seem to be all the rage, they are almost all I see!
are there a lot of things for your teenagers to get out and do where you live?
here in eastern kentucky our teenagers and young adults are always breaking the laws.if it is not drinking it is drugs.when most of them are ask why they do these things.they reply we have nothing to do here, it is so boring...they can go out to the movies,to eat,to ball game, every now and then they have concerts at our new expo center.they are never on the weekend.they closed the bowling alley to put in a horse betting place for adults.they have bingo for adult.adult clubs...nothing for our youth...is your area the same?
How I am enjoying a break from snow
Here in Eastern Kentucky, It has been sunny and pretty outside.I haven't gotten out yet to enjoy much of it.My kids has the flu so I have been doing the doctermom thing. But at noon I am going outside to rake some new greavel down my driveway and clean up where my back porch was so we can get building on a new one.I am hoping for no more snow cause of the kids has already missed so much cause of it already. What about you?Hows the weather in your neighborhood? And what are you doing today, besides being here on the net?
Stereotyping
What do mylotters think about stereotyping? I think there all groups of people out in our world. No matter what race, culture, location, or income status you come from it seems society has got a stereotype for you. Well do I have a story. About 9 months to a year ago there was a news broadcast about people living in the mountains of eastern Kentucky (Appalachians). Well this story grew alot of controversy because all the families that were syndicated in this broadcast was what they called low class, hillbilly or redneck. OK What's up with that. Everyone that was filmed either did not have running water, sit on porches of their dirt floor houses and had no teeth. Well I am sorry but I had my teeth pulled 5 years ago and I use the dentures I bought. Some were talking about how they did not have much to eat. Kentucky is a poverty state in some areas but we have very good government programs and free programs for food. There is no excuse to starve. Get on your donkey or horse you showed on tv and go sign up. I feel sorry for people when they can not pay for their medicine but then again we have problems there. you know who I really feel sorry for is people like my mom and dad who have...
The Wicker Basket..
The story is told oa an old man who lived in a farm in the mountains of eastern Kentucky with his young grandson. Each morning, Granpa was up early sitting in the kitchen table reading from his old worn-out Bible. His grandson who wanted to be just like him tried to imitate him in any way hecould. One day, the grandson asked, "Papa, I tried to read the Bible just like you but I don't understand it, and what I do understand I forget as soon as I close the book. What good does reading the Bible do?."The Grandfather quietly turned from putting the coal in the stove and said, "Take this old wicker basket down to the river and bring back a basket of water".The boy did as he was told, even though all the water leaked out before he could get back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, "You will have to move a little faster next time and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the old wicker basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead. The old man said, "I don't want a bucket of...
McCain Vows War On Poverty!!!
Say's " nation is in a recession. He retraced Lyndon Johnson's steeps in Eastern Kentucky and pledged to mount a 'war on poverty' different from that waged by the former Democratic President." See news article here:http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20080423/pl_bloomberg/a5d4rqyixmww;_ylt=An6bHVqVT_o2mclp9kF8JxCs0NUE What do you think asbout McCain doing this? If elected do you think he can pull us out of this slump? Or is it going to be Hillary OR Obama? I think McCain has a good chance at it...Your thoughts on this? Lori
I've come to realize that I'll always be.....
Complete the sentence and explain! I'll start. I've come to realize that I'll always be wondering how different my life would have been if I had not moved to Eastern Kentucky. I feel as though I have lost out on so much by living here.
