Will they let him in college now?
Eastern Illinois University received a mysterious package addressed to the admissions office that warranted a visit form the bomb squad! The envelope was dirty and ripped, had no return address, several misspellings, and tape all over it. The campus post office called the police, who xrayed the strange looking package. The only thing inside was an application for admission to the college.Administrators say that the student will receive the same chance of admission to the 12,500 student campus that others have. (Yeah right...what's that thing about first impressions?)Would you have opened the package...or called police?
Cowboys hope to keep `Romo-mentum' going against Buccaneers
When NFL and network scheduling mavens decided to have Tampa Bay play Dallas on Thanksgiving, they must have envisioned hyping the names Simms and Bledsoe and their shared connection, Cowboys coach Bill Parcells. Well, the game is here, and the quarterbacks aren't. Chris Simms (son of Phil, the MVP of Parcells' first Super Bowl team) is hurt. Drew Bledsoe (the starting quarterback in Parcells' most recent Super Bowl) is benched. Instead, the national television audience will watch a battle between Bruce Gradkowski and Tony Romo. ADVERTISEMENT In search of another promotional gimmick, how does Joey Galloway returning to Texas Stadium for the first time since being traded for Keyshawn Johnson grab you? Will you settle for Jon Gruden trying to spruce up his resume in case Jerry Jones is hiring this offseason? Although Gruden insists his club has loftier goals than trying to be a spoiler -- "We don't think of ourselves as a bunch of deadbeats," he said -- the best story line is the Buccaneers (3-7) trying to slow the "Romo-mentum" that's building around the Cowboys (6-4). Sparked by the new quarterback, Dallas has won two in a row and three of four....
Parcells having hard time finding fault with Romo
Bill Parcells still isn't impressed with everything Tony Romo does. Even after Romo threw for 306 yards and matched a team record with five touchdowns to lead the Dallas Cowboys to their third straight victory, Parcells talked first about the scoring pass the NFL's top-rated quarterback missed Thanksgiving Day. "He drove that first pass to Terry (Glenn), the long one down the sideline. If he puts a little air under that, then we have a chance to score right there," Parcells said. "There are things that happen out there that people aren't cognitive of." Maybe not, but what's easily noticed is that Romo hit Glenn for consecutive touchdowns after coming up empty the opening drive. He threw two more TDs to Marion Barber III and a record-tying fifth score to Terrell Owens in a 38-10 victory over Tampa Bay. "Yeah, I know, but I could have thrown those first two," Parcells said. "I wouldn't go that far," Romo said. "They were some easy ones, but it's not that easy to get down there sometimes." Still, Romo's making it look easy after waiting nearly 3 1/2 seasons for his chance. The Cowboys (7-4) have won four of five games since Romo, the undrafted...
Dallas 38, Tampa Bay 10
IRVING, Texas (AP) -- For a three-play stretch Thursday, Tony Romo looked like a guy making only his fifth start after 3 1/2 years on the bench. He threw low and inside on what could've been a long touchdown pass to Terry Glenn. On the next snap, he held the ball too long and got sacked. Then he came up short on a deep ball to a wide-open Terrell Owens. He hardly misfired again. Romo went on to throw five touchdown passes, tying a Dallas Cowboys record and leading them to an easy 38-10 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "I thought it was Aikman out there," Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden said. Well, there was one difference: Troy Aikman needed overtime for the only five-TD game of his career. And Roger Staubach, the other Hall of Fame quarterback for the Cowboys, never did it. While it's tough to lump Romo in with those guys at this point in his career, it is no longer "ludicrous" to consider him being Pro Bowl-caliber, as coach Bill Parcells said earlier this week. The Cowboys are 7-4, with a half-game lead in the NFC East and the second-most wins in the conference behind Chicago (9-1), and Romo is a major reason for it. He's 4-1 as...
Chiefs host Broncos in marquee Thanksgiving game
BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - The Kansas City Chiefs will join the traditional Thanksgiving hosts. Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt lobbied for a long time to host a Thanksgiving game. He finally gets his wish Thursday night when the Chiefs (6-4) host the Denver Broncos (7-3) in a battle of AFC West rivals. It will be the first regular-season game on the NFL Network and begins a string of five Thursday night contests. The Dallas Cowboys (6-4) and Detroit Lions (2-8) continue their tradition of hosting the holiday afternoon games. With a chance to move into sole possession of first place in the NFC East, the Cowboys will face the last-place Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-7). The Lions (2-8), who are tied with Arizona for the worst record in the NFL, will play the Miami Dolphins (4-6) in an interconference contest. But the marquee game will take place at night. Denver is one game behind the first-place San Diego Chargers in the AFC West. The Chiefs can tie the Broncos for second place with a win on Thursday. In the first meeting on September 17, Jason Elam kicked a 39-yard field goal with 9:50 left in overtime to lift the Broncos to a 9-6 victory....
