myLot Discussions| Elias' cross check on Ott | | Did you see the cheap shot Elias got away with on Ott? Now I must confess that I am no way a Stars' fan nor a Devils fan. but it was ridiculous that Elias got Just 2 minutes. That was a major! I think that the game was played in Jersey Plus it was Elias came into play and it shouldn't have!Shouldn't a cross check that cheap be a major regardless where it happened and who did it?
| | Avery remarks | | It seems like Avery will do and say anything. This last thing Must have been the last straw. I guess I am not as sensitive in this case. The term he used isn't the best term but the statement doesn't bother me. I guess I just consider the source. I guess that All his girlfriends find better men after him. What do you think about all of this? | |
| | Second half heroics | | When it comes to the NHL there is always that big second half story. Last year it was the collapse of the Ottawa Senators and the rise of the Washington Capitals. With the NHL's second half set to get under way tonight what can you predict to be this season's biggest stories of the second half in terms of team production.Last year a lot of the action came from the East and this year I believe it will be the West to keep an eye on. As much as I would love to see the Blue Jackets tear it up and finally make the playoffs for the first time in their franchise I believe the team to watch is the Dallas Stars. They were considered to be greatly underachieving at one point were even last in the conference. However, a quick turnaround heading into the All-Star break and they currently sit 4 points back of a playoff spot, 6 points out of fifth and have 3, or in some cases 4 less games played then most of the conferences. These point totals could potentially be made up in those extra games, let alone any streaks. | |
| | Hockey a cruel irony. | | It must be totally ironic to anyone who gives two cents about hockey. Canada a nation that lives and dies for that sport. The nation that its young boys who go to sleep cradling their very first hockey stick. Dreams about the first time on a frozen pond make the night go by fast. This nation has not had the stanley cup to grace its nation since 1993 when the Montreal Canadians. Since 1993, lets look at a list of teams that have won the Stanley cup:
The Dallas Stars, The Tampa Bay Lightning, the Carolina Hurricanes, and now just one game away the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. What makes it even worse is that three of the four teams beat Canadian teams. People who live in the sunbelt of the US, could care less really about hockey. The reason why they go to the games is for the hitting, for the hitting, and did I mention for the hitting. Look Canada, we don't get the sport we just know how to win the sport. We take your best athletes from you, and use them against you. But it really wasn't that hard. Nine months out of the year our women wear bathing suits, and nine months out of the year your women wear coats. Also when your canadian hockey players come to America we don't tax them to...
| | Canucks try to close out series in Dallas | | Vancouver at Dallas 8:00 pm EDT Western Conference quarterfinal Vancouver leads, 3-2DALLAS (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks haven't been very successful when it comes to closing out playoff series. The Canucks, who lead the Dallas Stars three-games-to-two in their Western Conference quarterfinal matchup, have lost their last five games when having the opportunity to eliminate an opponent.ADVERTISEMENT
Vancouver will attempt to end that skid when it travels to Dallas on Saturday for Game Six of the best-of-seven series. The Canucks are seeking their first series victory since besting the St. Louis Blues in the 2003 conference quarterfinals.Goaltending and penalty killing continue to be the story of this series. Since Game One - a 5-4 Vancouver win in four overtimes - neither team has tallied more than two goals in a game. Before allowing an overtime goal to Brenden Morrow in Thursday's 1-0 loss, Vancouver's Roberto Luongo had yielded just four tallies over 17 periods in the series. His counterpart Marty Turco has recorded two shutouts in the series.Coincidentally, the goaltenders have an identical 1.39 goals against average and are No. 1 and No. 2 in...
| | Dallas 1, Vancouver 0, OT | | VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Marty Turco waited more than three years to celebrate in overtime of a playoff game, so he didn't mind missing Thursday night's winning goal too much.Turco made 21 saves before Brenden Morrow scored a power-play goal 6:22 into overtime to lead the Dallas Stars to a 1-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks, and avoid being knocked out in five games for a third straight playoffs."It's been a long time since I've had a playoff hero in the locker room with me," said Turco, who had lost six straight in overtime since the first round of 2004. "I was kind of sad. I didn't really see it go in. You kind of want to see it go in. I just saw it in the air, so I was double-checking with the ref."Sure enough, the referee was pointing into the net to signal a goal after Morrow cruised through the slot and deflected Sergei Zubov's point shot off Roberto Luongo, then up and over the goaltender and into the net."Marty has been unbelievable," Morrow said of Turco, whose overtime losing streak included two in this series alone, starting with a four-overtime, 51-save marathon in Game 1. "He's given us a chance to win and he's just sitting back there... | |
| | Been to a professional sports game? Worth the price? | | Have you ever been to a professional sports game? Do you think it is worth the high price?I have been to a few (Cowboys, Mavericks, Texas Rangers, Steelers, Dallas Stars, ...). Although I did have a good time, some of the tickets can be pretty pricey. I think it is fun to go every now and then, but I wouldn't want to go all the time. What do you think? | |
| | Teemu Selanne scored a hat trick - friend with cancer had asked for it | | Teemu Selanne (Anaheim Mighty Ducks) scored a hat trick (3 goals) in a match against Dallas Stars (Jan 11, 2007). Although a hat trick is nothing super-special, but this one really hit the news. Before the game Selanne had called to his friend in Finland. This friend has a brain cancer and he's running out of time very soon. He asked Selanne to score 3 goals and send him the puck afterwards. Selanne promised to do this, but also reminded that the odds for a hat trick are pretty minimal. But the most unusual thing happened. Selanne scored those three goals! To me this was the best news I've read for a while. There's always issues about terrorists and disasters, but luckily you | |
