| Removal of Cross from William and Mary College Chapel.. Your Opinion? | | I think that as everyone knows William and Mary's college is a catholic college shoul they have to remove the cross. Also a Catholic, school President Gene R. Nichol often goes to the 120-seat chapel alone at night to think in the quiet.Both agree the chapel is a sacred space meaningful to students, alumni, faculty and staff of the public school who use it for religious services and secular events.They clash, though, over what to do with an unadorned, 18-inch brass cross that had been displayed on the altar since about 1940.Nichol ordered the cross removed in October to make the chapel more welcoming to students of all faiths. | | NCAA rulings on college mascots and logos with Native American references | | What do you think about the NCAA rulings on the use of Native American mascots and logos? It seems hypocritical to me when a college like Florida State can parade an "Indian" in war paint and on a horse in their stadium during football games, but the College of William and Mary is being forced to change their logo, which is two feathers, because it violates the NCAA new policy. | Useless College Degree- Can I Get A Refund? | | I spent 4 years and so much money (that it makes me sick) on an education at a great university and it means absolutely squat thanks to the economy and the current job market. GPA and the difficult courses I slaved over mean nothing compared to years of experience and having dependents and connections. | Never too late to earn a college degree: A 94-year old woman earns her degree | | I just read a news from Yahoo! that a 94 year old woman just earned her college degree. Hazel Soares earned a degree from Mills College, an Oakland liberal arts college for women. According to Soares, it took her a while to finish her college degree because she was busy. Mills had 6 children, 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Soares however isn't the oldest person to earn a college degree. In 2007, Nola Ochs graduated from college at the age of 95, coincidentally, also the same year Soares enrolled at Mills College. Before enrolling at Mills, Soares spent six years taking courses at Chabot College at Hayward before earning her associate's degree at the age of 85.Soares is such an inspiration. It shows that learning should never stop and one should have the knack to learn. It really doesn't mean that one has to enroll in different colleges but one should make it a part of life to earn. What's happening these days is that people think that once they're done with school and have already earned a degree, it's all done for them. | Does Scholarships really help with College Education? | | I am going back to college for my Nursing Degree and I am interested in applying for Scholarships I have even started a packet, my friends have received scholarships as well, my question is even with all of the changes in the economy is there still the need to take out Student Loans, combined with the Scholarships or does it pay to have a great budget???
