myLot Discussions | | | Cubs vs. Sox - Where did all the tickets go? | | As a Cub fan, I find nothing more gratifying then traveling to a place where you're ridiculued, scoffed at, and clearly not wanted, only to witness a defeat of the home team at the hands of my beloved Cubs. These three days a year are perhaps the biggest events of the summer, and because of such, every year I devise new ways to get my hands on a few pairs of tickets. These year, however, that looks to be extremely difficult, for the tickets for these three games are completely sold out, and they haven't even gone on sale yet to the general public! So where the hell did they go? To whom got first dibs? This is a total bummer, for now, if any real fans want to go to the game(s) they're going to have to pay ticket scalpers nothing short of their first born child. Can't something be done to ensure the likelihood that real fans, rather than corporate rats, get tickets? | |
| | Cubs vs. Sox - Where did all the tickets go? | | In Chicago, one of the biggest events of the summer is when the Chicago Cubs travel south to face their archrival the Chicago White Sox. Every year, I devise some new plan to acquire tickets to these games because they're the hottest tickets in town to get a hold of. This year, all three games are sold out already, and tickets haven't even gone on sale yet to the general public! So to whom have they sold the tickets to? Doesn't the general public make up the majority of the fan base? So why on earth would they give the general public first crack at getting these tickets? Now, for the real fans that want to go to the games, they'll have to pay ticket brokers nothing less than their first born child for tickets. Don't you think this is totally ridiculous? Any ideas on how teams could devise a system in which the true fans can get a hold of the tickets before the vultures do? | |
| | The coming year | | So do you think the White Sox have what it takes to bring Chicago another championship in 2007? I think they should have had it this year but couldn't put it together at the same time. I am sure Ozzie won't let that happend 2 years in a row! | |

| | Being a Sports Fan Instead of a Sports Idiot | | I have never understood some of the insane things that go on in various sporting events. The things fans do have never made much sense to me. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am all for having fun at a sporting event. I am a huge fan when it comes to things like football and baseball. I am a Chicago Bears fan and a huge Chicago White Sox fan. I have a huge baseball cap collection featuring teams that aren’t even in my city. However, there are limits to everything.I remember back in the 90s when the “Tomahawk Chop” was all the rage back when the Braves were routinely in the World Series. There were some people who thought that this was offensive to American Indians. Of course this ignored the fact that the thing started with college football and the Florida State Seminole’s football team. I never thought it was offensive to anyone. I mean, this was baseball. If you are offended at something stupid at a baseball game then you have bigger problems than drunken fans chanting off key and waving their arms around. I didn’t like the Chop because I just thought it was stupid. What purpose did it serve? From what I understand a lot of athletes, especially those in sports that... | |
| | The Astros. Miguel Tejada and Steroids | | In recent years, the Houston Astros established a reputation as a good old boy baseball team, free from the taints of controversy that had encumbered other baseball teams and other sports. In 2006, the Astros played for the World Series against the Chicago White Sox, who featured a very explosive, Hispanic manager in Ozzie Gullen and a racially diverse team. When the White Sox swept the Astros 4-0 questions began to simmer about the Astros. People began calling them, the old boy network team, others called them a racist organization to have an all white team in 2006. But others pointed to the fact that with players with squeaky clean reputations like Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell, they steered clear of the steroids taint that had saddled many other teams. They said in the long run the image of old boy respect was worth more. The reputation of a racist organization was unfair. The Astros, in their history were known for some of the best minority players in the game. The (Toy Cannon) Jimmy Wynn, pitcher J. R. Richard, Cesar Cedono, Joe Morgan, and current baseball executive Bob Watson all coarsed through the franchise. But there were reports that the welcome they got was not... | |
