| | myLot Discussions| Are The Presidential Debates Practical? | | Okay, here we are, in front of the television, watching Barack Obama and John McCain going back and forth with answers to questions posed by Tom Brokaw as well as members of the audience. While this campaign is certainly interesting to watch, and certainly helps to establish a better understanding of these politicians viewpoints, it is also interesting to note how much of their answers address the "working class American" as if they themselves are one.Now let me tell you, I live in Nashville and I drove past Belmont University today. While there is a lot of "pomp and circumstance" surrounding their arrivals, and their choice to hold this debate here, there is also a LOT of money being spent to make this debate happen. I find no fault with this...it IS important that these debates occur so that the American population can get to know our candidates more intimately, but I am perplexed by how much money gets dumped into the campaign trail.I drove past Nashville International Airport this afternoon and saw the huge, commercial jets that have been transformed into their roving headquarters. LOS ANGELES - Hannah Montana is leaving destiny behind.
Miley Cyrus, whose given name is Destiny Hope Cyrus, has filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court to change her full legal name to Miley Ray Cyrus.
The 15-year-old singer and TV star is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who filed the papers last Friday with wife Leticia. Her father writes in the filing that the request was "to make her commonly used name the same as her legal name."The name-change request was first reported by the celebrity website TMZ.com.
Miley Cyrus has said her father gave her the nickname "Smiley Miley" as a baby because of her sunny disposition. On the Disney Channel tween hit "Hannah Montana," she plays a teen who hides her singing stardom.
Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus are hosting the Country Music Television ceremony together at Nashville's Belmont University on April 14. | |
| | The New Miss USA | | Tara Connors days as the troubled Miss USA are over now. Tonight Miss Tennessee was crowned the new Miss USA. Donald Trump seemed absolutely giddy. It was almost sickening. Rachel Smith is a very poised young woman from what I saw. She is a journalism graduate from Belmont University in Tennessee. She also did a year's internship at the Oprah Winfrey show, which I found interesting. The other thing that blew me away was the panel of judges: Jerry Springer, "Blow Out" star Jonathan Antin, "E! News" co-host Giuliana De Pandi, MTV's Vanessa Minnillo; Baby Phat President Kimora Lee Simmons and Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss. HMMMM, can't figure out how some of these people got to be there.Did you watch the show? What do you think? Do you agree with pageants? Share whatever thoughts you have. | |
