| | What do you think of this article: | | Star Trek-like 'Warp drive' Theorized
WACO, Texas (UPI) -- U.S. scientists say they've developed a theory that would allow a spacecraft to travel faster than the speed of light without breaking the laws of physics. Baylor University Associate Professor Gerald Cleaver and graduate student Richard Obousy theorize that by manipulating the extra spatial dimensions of string theory around a spaceship with an extremely large amount of energy, it would create a "bubble" that could cause the ship to travel faster than the speed of light. "Think of it like a surfer riding a wave," said Cleaver. "The ship would be pushed by the spatial bubble and the bubble would be traveling faster than the speed of light." The researchers said their theory is based on the Alcubierre drive, which proposes expanding the fabric of space behind a ship and shrinking space-time in front of the ship. The ship wouldn't actually move, rather the ship would sit in a bubble between the expanding and shrinking space-time dimensions. And since space would move around the ship, the theory does not violate Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity, they said. Copyright 2008 by United Press...
| | Liver transplant | | This is not a chain letter. This is a legitimate request for prayer from those who believe. It is not meant to offend, and you don't have to pass it on to 10 people in the next 5 minutes. My husband's aunt...her name is Deloris Coulter is currently at Baylor University Medical Center awaiting a liver transplant. Her liver has completely quit working and the doctor's say it is dead. She is in very bad shape. If you are one who prays, I would just appreciate knowing that my friends were lifting her up. The doctor's have yet to find out what caused the liver to quit working
Every test they did came back negative. The family would appreciate any individual or church that would be willing to pray for this woman.
Thanks in advance for this.
| | I just love this article, why not to have a baby "cry it out" | | Just some food for thought;)http://www.askdrsears.com/html/10/handout2.asp
Science Says: Excessive Crying Could Be Harmful to Babies
Science tells us that when babies cry alone and unattended, they experience panic and anxiety. Their bodies and brains are flooded with adrenaline and cortisol stress hormones. Science has also found that when developing brain tissue is exposed to these hormones for prolonged periods these nerves won’t form connections to other nerves and will degenerate. Is it therefore possible that infants who endure many nights or weeks of crying-it-out alone are actually suffering harmful neurologic effects that may have permanent implications on the development of sections of their brain? Here is how science answers this alarming question: Chemical and hormonal imbalances in the brain
Research has shown that infants who are routinely separated from parents in a stressful way have abnormally high levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as lower growth hormone levels. These imbalances inhibit the development of nerve tissue in the brain, suppress growth, and depress the immune system. 5, 9, 11, 16 Researchers at Yale University and Harvard...
| | Why You Really Do Prefer Coke or Pepsi? | |
Guess what? Your passionate preference for Coke or Pepsi is in your brain, not just your taste buds.Baylor University researchers gave 67 volunteers taste tests of Coke and Pepsi, and brain scans showed that when they knew what they were drinking it not only affected their preference, but also activated memory-related brain regions that recall cultural influences.Academic-speak translation: Product branding and advertising work.
Lead study author Samuel McClure, who has left Baylor and is now a professor at Princeton University, said in a news release announcing the study findings that our choice for Coke or Pepsi is affected by our perception because "there are visual images and marketing messages that have insinuated themselves into the nervous systems of humans that consume the drinks." That's right. Science says advertising has worked its way into our nervous systems. While scientists have long suspected that cultural messages do have an impact on taste perception, they did not know until now that there was a neurological component as well. The team chose a Coke vs. Pepsi test for two reasons. First, there is a growing obesity crisis in the United States, and...
