myLot Discussions| Have you gone to a Thrashers Hockey game at Philips Arena? | | I've been to several hockey games, but my favorite by far was a couple of weeks ago on my son's 9th birthday. My step-daughter had surprised him the day before by letting him spend the night with her. My wife and I had bought tickets a few days before, gave her 3 tickets, for her, her boyfriend and my son. They were going down to the area, not telling him what was going on, then would show up at the arena for the first of the suprises. We got there just as they were at the corner, so there went the second part of our surprise, we had brought his best friend too. We still had a great time, my wife and our best friend came too, so there were 7 of us, and they WON! Needless to say he had a nice birthday, he did however ask us if we got him any other presents...no, 7 hockey tickets was plenty! I guess next time, with a gift that big, we'll wrap the tickets up so he can open them and let him know about the game, we'll just let the friend be the surprise. | |
| | | Slumping Thrashers trade for Tkachuk | | The Atlanta Thrashers are no longer worrying about the future. They don't want to wait 'til next year anymore. It's time to make the playoffs. With their second deal in two days, the slumping Thrashers acquired rugged forward Keith Tkachuk from the St. Louis Blues on Sunday, giving up right wing Glen Metropolit, a first-round pick in 2007 and two other draft choices. The Thrashers paid a steep price for Tkachuk, hoping he can stop the free fall that sent them tumbling from first place to a state of desperation as they try to hang on for a spot in the playoffs. Atlanta is one of only two franchises (Columbus is the other) that has never made the postseason. "Over the years, we've always been pretty conservative when it comes to trading away picks or prospects. We've always protected the future," Thrashers general manager Don Waddell said. "Well, the future for us is now." | |
