Arizona State University won't give Obama honorary degree despite protests
Well it's nice to see once college that won't cave under pressure. I'm also glad to see they have higher standards than some universities who just throw these degrees at anyone who speaks there. My wife told me the main reason colleges give them out is so they can get important people to speak for free. The official statement from ASU was "His body of work is yet to come. That's why we're not recognizing him with a degree at the beginning of his presidency," Media Relations Director Sharon Keller told the AP Thursday. This is pretty standard for ASU, but apparently people started making a big stink over it after a local paper ran a headline stating something like "ASU refuses to give Obama honorary degree".What are your opinions? Should they give him an honorary degree? Does he really deserve one just because he's president? Feel free to read the comments at the CNN page. The morons there are accusing ASU of being racist. Of course that's typical of Obama's minions. Does anyone here on mylot actually believe race is a factor?http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/04/10/new-commencement-headache-for-wh/#comments
Arizona Man Kills Record Western Diamondback. What Would You Have Done?
Globe--Lowell "Butch" Burns of Globe, Arizona killed a monster rattlesnake Oct 26, 2008 during a overnight campout up on Gobblers Knob near the Sabino Basin. Burns was walking near his camp when he stepped close and the snake buzzed a warning. He said, "At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to do battle with so formidable a critter but I sure didn't want him to be roaming around my campsite. Burns notified the authorities to report the incident and the snake was measured at a world record of 8 Ft. 10 in. The snake was packed in ice, then given, by request, to the Arizona State University Herpetology department for study and preservation. If you want to find out more about this go to www.asucentral.comMy reply to this is there is no good snake but a dead snake. But then I hate snakes. What are your thoughts on this gigantic snake? morons there are accusing ASU of being racist. Of course that's typical of Obama's minions. Latest Polls: Some good news for McCain
Latest national poll of polls: Obama 51% McCain 43% Nader 3% Barr 3% Others less than 0.5% Latest state poll of pollsWashingtonObama 55% McCain 34%Note: I still can't understand why every pundit still thinks that this state is leaning Obama. It is so safe Obama. Every poll puts Obama at least 14% ahead in this state; where is the fight?Montana (MOE (Margin of Error) 4%)McCain 48% Obama 44%Note: Should be safe for McCain. Even though it is technically a dead heat, it is very hard for Obama to win it so late when he is just at the point of MOE. The Republicans have diverted $300000 away from Nevada to be put in Montana. Should be a done deal for McCain. Arizona (MOE 3%)McCain 46% Obama 44%Note: Obama actually challenging McCain on his home turf? Nah; I do not think so. IMO, the reason that the race appears close hear is that students in Arizona State University (one of the 3 inputs to this poll of polls) may have taken polls in a concentric area. That could have caused the numbers to be topsy turvy. I really do not think that that many Ron Paul supporters would be Obama 'converts'. McCain's numbers have always been around...
ASU financial professor says Obama's plan will dig us deeper in the hole
Many people think the sound of Obama's financial plans sound great, especially to the poor. His plan is to increase taxes for the upper classes and use that money to pay for things available to the lower class. But an Arizona State University financial professor says "It sounds great, but we tried that during the Great Depression, and (President Franklin D.) Roosevelt kept digging us deeper and deeper and deeper into the hole," The professor also has this to say about Obama's tax plans: "That's going to require staggering tax increases which will collapse the economy." The article says McCain's plan has the best chance of saving jobs and it will jumpstart the economy."People like to work hard and make more money," Sanders said. "The more money they make, the better they like it. They should be able to keep more of their money."For the full article go here: http://ktar.com/?nid=6&sid=971133What are your thoughts?
Teaching Students to Conduct Faulty Studies
Today's paper had two very conflicting stories in it.The first was a small article by the Associated Press that stated that 70 percent of Arizona voters support allowing undocumented (illegal) immigrants to receive US citizenship. The survey that was used to come to this conclusion polled 386 voters and was conducted by the "Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University). In other words, it was a student project. The second was an article that Arizona voters are starting a recall petition for Senator McCain and Senator Kyl for their support of that same piece of legislation that is currently in the Senate. This story was also broadcast over our local radio station. Here in our city, the only ones who are supporting this bill are a few business owners (who are profiting from illegal workers); a hand full of religious leaders (who feel that legal status does not matter, we are all God's children); and a few individuals who are either here illegally or are trying to get relatives in the country through ANY means. So why this major discrepancy in the poll results and the actual citizens opinions? Obviously, this survey was being...
Debunking The 9/11 Myths
Debunking The 9/11 Myths THE PLANES The widely accepted account that hijackers commandeered and crashed the four 9/11 planes is supported by reams of evidence, from cockpit recordings to forensics to the fact that crews and passengers never returned home. Nonetheless, conspiracy theorists seize on a handful of "facts" to argue a very different scenario: The jets that struck New York and Washington, D.C., weren't commercial planes, they say, but something else, perhaps refueling tankers or guided missiles. And the lack of military intervention? Theorists claim it proves the U.S. government instigated the assault or allowed it to occur in order to advance oil interests or a war agenda. Where's The Pod? CLAIM: Photographs and video footage shot just before United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower of the World Trade Center (WTC) show an object underneath the fuselage at the base of the right wing. The film "911 In Plane Site" and the Web site LetsRoll911.org claim that no such object is found on a stock Boeing 767. They speculate that this "military pod" is a missile, a bomb or a piece of equipment on an air-refueling tanker. LetsRoll911.org points to this as evidence...
An American Police Officer Discovers Islam
An American Police Officer Discovers Islam By Linda Delgado My Search 13/03/2004 About five years ago, I was fifty-two years old and a Christian. I had not become a member of any Christian church, but all my life I had been searching for the truth. I attended many churches and studied with their teachers. All fell short and I recognized none as being the truth about Allah. Since I was nine years old, I had read the Bible everyday of my life. I cannot tell you, over the many years, how many times I searched it for the truth. During the long years of my search for the truth, I studied with many religious faiths. For over a year I studied two times a week with a Catholic priest, but could not accept Catholic beliefs. I spent another year studying with the Jehovah Witnesses and did not accept their beliefs either. I spent nearly two years with the LDS (Latter-Day Saints, i.e. the Mormons) and still did not find truth. I had a Jewish friend and we had many discussions about the Jewish beliefs. I went to many Protestant churches, some for months at a time, trying to find answers to my questions. My heart told me Jesus was not God but a Prophet. My heart told me...
Illinois politics biting him in the butt
Forget the Tea Parties. President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress have another rebellion on their hands -- led by a fellow Democrat from Obama's home state. Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez is turning up the volume on his already piercing criticism of the Obama administration for failing to tackle immigration reform and is now threatening to rally Hispanics to stay home on Election Day. Gutierrez took his criticism a step further Tuesday, holding a news conference on Capitol Hill with other Latino lawmakers to slam a bill making its way toward the governor's desk in Arizona that would give state officials broad new powers to arrest people suspected of being illegal immigrants -- a bill Gutierrez blames in part on Obama. Gutierrez said the measure will only lead to "violations of people's basic fundamental civil rights" and called on the president to make clear that federal policy preempts "all state laws." Gutierrez has kept up a steady drumbeat of pressure and criticism aimed at the president in recent weeks. He argued in an op-ed last week that the president's failure to act on immigration reform had opened the door for local measures like the one in...
